1. UNITED NATION RECOGNIZES 2017 AS YEAR OF SUSTAINABLE TOURISM FOR DEVELOPMENT
i. The United Nations 70th General Assembly has recognised the year 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development.
ii. The declaration of 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development is a unique opportunity to raise awareness among decision-makers and the public about the contribution of sustainable tourism towards development along with mobilizing all stakeholders to work together in making tourism a catalyst for positive change.
iii. The Year also aims to support a change in policies, business practices and consumer behavior towards a more sustainable tourism sector than can contribute to the universal 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals.
iv .The World Tourism Organization , the United Nations Specialized Agency for Tourism, has been mandated to facilitate the organization and implementation of the International Year.

2. INDIA & KAZAKHSTAN SIGNS DOUBLE TAXATION AVOIDANCE CONVENTION AMENDMENT PROTOCOL
i. India and Kazakhstan have signed a Protocol to amend the existing Double Taxation Avoidance Convention between the two countries in New Delhi.
ii. The Protocol provides internationally accepted standards for effective exchange of information on tax matters.
iii. The Agreement was originally signed on 9th December, 1996 for the avoidance of double taxation and for the prevention of fiscal evasion with respect to taxes on income.

3. 4TH ASSAM INTERNATIONAL AGRI-HORTI SHOW TO BEGIN IN GUWAHATI
i. The Fourth Assam International Agri-Horti Show began in Guwahati, Assam.
ii. The CM of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the programme.
iii. The Four-Day Show will be attended by about 200 organisations from 10 foreign countries. Nearly 600 farmers from Assam will be trained on doubling farmers’ income, more crops per drop and agri-preneurship development.

4. 3 DAYS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON YOGA FOR DIABETES ORGANISED
i. The Minister of State Shri Shripad Yesso Naik inaugurated the International Conference on “Yoga for Diabetes” which began in New Delhi.
ii. The 3 days conference aims to generate discussions on the role of Yoga in the prevention and management of Diabetes and draw up a roadmap to be adopted for the control of Diabetes through Yoga.

5. UNION GOVT. APPROVES ASSISTANCE OF RS 1782 CRORE FOR KARNATAKA
i. The Centre has approved an assistance of 1782.44 crore rupees for Karnataka. The state will get this sum from the National Disaster Relief Fund as drought relief.
ii. The decision was taken during a meeting of the High Level Committee chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
iii. The committee approved the grant after examining the proposal based on the reports of the Inter-Ministerial Central Team which visited the state. The assistance has been approved from the National Disaster Relief Fund.
iv. The committee also approved a grant of Rs. 209 crore to Uttarakhand which had been hit by floods in 2013.
v. The committee approved the assistance from the National Disaster Relief Fund and National Rural Drinking Water Programme in respect of Uttarakhand.

6. VETERAN ACTOR OM PURI PASSES AWAY
i. Veteran actor Om Puri has passed away after a massive heart attack.
ii. He has received an Order of the British Empire as well as Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award of India.


7. SIDBI TIES UP WITH LIC FOR CAPITAL SUPPORT TO ENTERPRISES
i. Small Industries Development Bank of India said it has tied up with Life Insurance Corporation of India  for augmenting capital support to enterprises in the country.
ii. The idea behind tying up with the state-run insurance behemoth is to give a boost to the venture capital ecosystem for MSMEs.

8. S PADMANABHAN APPOINTED AS CHAIRMAN OF TATA POWER
i. Tata Sons has appointed S Padmanabhan as the Chairman of Tata Power Co Ltd  in place of Cyrus Mistry. Recently he was appointed as the head of group for human resources for Tata Sons. He is also the executive chairman of Tata Business Excellence Group.
 ii. He is associated Tata group for 34 years, of which 26 were with Tata Consultancy Services.

9. SIR TIM BARROW HAS BEEN APPOINTED AS THE BRITAIN’S AMBASSADOR TO EU
i. UK Senior diplomat Sir Tim Barrow was appointed the new ambassador to the European Union. 
ii. He replaced Sir Ivan Rogers.
iii. He previously served in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, as a representative to various bodies of the European Union and as British Ambassador to Ukraine.
