1.       RBI GRANTED SRO STATUS TO FINANCE INDUSTRY DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) granted Self-Regulatory Organisation (SRO) status to the Finance Industry Development Council (FIDC), the representative body for asset and loan financing Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) registered with the RBI.

·         As an SRO, FIDC will enforce a code of conduct, ensure regulatory compliance, and work with the RBI to address sectoral issues.

·         FIDC represents nearly 400 NBFCs, with SRO membership being voluntary for eligible members.

·         Raman Aggarwal has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead the organization in its new role as an SRO.

·         So far, two microfinance companies have been recognised as SROs i.e. Sa-Dhan and Microfinance Network (MFIN) and Fintech Association for Consumer Empowerment (FACE) as SRO for the financial technology (fintech) sector.

 


2.       RBI IMPOSES PENALTIES ON AMERICAN EXPRESS BANKING CORP AND HDB FINANCIAL SERVICES

·         The RBI imposed a fine of Rs. 31.80 lakh on American Express Banking Corporation.

·         The fine was imposed for failing to return credit balances to certain cardholders from refunds or failed transactions.

·         HDB Financial Services was fined Rs.4.2 lakh for not adhering to the ‘Know Your Customer (KYC) Directions, 2016’.

 

3.       GLOBAL FINTECH FEST 2025 - MUMBAI 

·         The sixth edition of the Global Fintech Fest (GFF 2025), was held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

·         Organiser is Payments Council of India (PCI), National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), and Fintech Convergence Council (FCC).

·         Theme: Empowering Finance for a Better World Powered by AI: Augmented Intelligence | Innovation | Inclusion”.

·         Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched a Foreign Currency Settlement System (FCSS) at the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).

·         The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) launched four new digital payment initiatives: UPI (Unified Payment Interface) Help, IoT (Internet of Things) Payments with UPI, and Banking Connect.

·         Indian financial services company Navi UPI becomes the first UPI app in India to enable biometric-based payments at scale, allowing users to approve transactions through fingerprint or facial recognition instead of entering a UPI Personal Identification Number (PIN).

·         It also launched Reserve Pay and EV Recharge.

·         HDFC Announced the launch of “My Business Quick Response (QR)”, powered by Vyaparify, a digital innovation designed to give Bharat’s entrepreneurs their first commerce identity.

·         Pitch for Business’ initiative, providing a platform for startups and innovators.

 

4.       WORLD TEACHER’S DAY 2025 – OCTOBER 5

·         World Teachers’ Day (WTD), observed annually on October 5 by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

·         2025 Theme: “Recasting teaching as a collaborative profession”.

·         WTD is jointly organized by UNESCO in collaboration with the ILO, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and Education International (EI).

·         UNESCO Headquarters– Paris, France.

·         Member Nations– 194.

·         Established-1945.

 

5.       WORLD HABITAT DAY 2025 – OCTOBER 6

·         The United Nations (UN) observes World Habitat Day annually across the world on the first Monday of October to highlight the state of human settlements and emphasize every person’s right to adequate shelter.

·         2025 Theme: “Urban Crisis Response”.

·         WHD was first celebrated in 1986 and the event was hosted by Nairobi, Kenya.

·         The UN-Habitat Scroll of Honour Award was launched in 1989 by the UN-Habitat. It is recognized today as the most prestigious award in the field of human settlements worldwide.

·         The 2025 UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) Scroll of Honour Award recognized outstanding contributions to sustainable urban development by the following laureates: Israel Smart (Nigeria), Public Works Studio (Lebanon), Just a Change (Portugal), and Clara Marina Brugada Molina (Mexico).

·         WHD 2025 was hosted in Nairobi, Kenya, at the UN-Habitat Headquarters, with the global celebration coordinated by UN-Habitat.

 

6.       WORLD COTTON DAY 2025 – OCTOBER 7

·         The idea of UN World Cotton Day was proposed in 2019 by four sub-Saharan African cotton producers: Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Mali, collectively called the Cotton Four, who suggested to the World Trade Organization (WTO) that 7 October be celebrated as World Cotton Day.

·         The Ministry of Textiles(MoT) celebrated WCD in New Delhi focusing on the theme “Cotton 2040: Technology, Climate & Competitiveness”. 

 

7.       INDIAN AIR FORCE DAY 2025 – OCTOBER 8

·         Indian Air Force (IAF) Day, also known as IAF Raising Day, is observed on 8th October across India to commemorate the formation of the IAF on 8 October 1932, originally established as an auxiliary air force under the British Empire.

·         2025 Theme “Indian Air Force – Infallible, Impervious and Precise”.

·         The IAF was founded on 8th October 1932 as part of the British Royal Air Force under the name Royal Indian Air Force (RIAF).

·         The 93rd anniversary of the IAF day was celebrated at Air Force Station Hindan, Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh (UP). 

 

8.       WORLD POST DAY 2025 – OCTOBER 9

·         The United Nations (UN) observes World Post Day (WPD) annually on 9th October to commemorate the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland.

·         2025 Theme: “#PostForPeople: Local Service. Global Reach”.

·         Universal Postal Union(UPU) is the world’s second-oldest international organization after the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

·         UPU became a UN specialized agency on 1st July 1948.

·         Headquartered– Bern, Switzerland.

·         Established– 1874.

·         Member countries– 192.

 

9.       WORLD ANIMAL DAY 2025 – OCTOBER 4

·         2025 Theme:’Save Animals, Save the Planet’

·         The International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN) Red List shows nearly 18,000 threatened species.

 

10.    WORLD MIGRATORY BIRD DAY 2025 – OCTOBER 11

·         The United Nations (UN)’s World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) is biannually observed across the globe on the 2nd Saturday of May and October to raise awareness and promote global conservation of migratory birds.

·         2025 Theme: “Shared Spaces: Creating Bird-Friendly Cities & Communities”.

·         The initiative began in the United States of America (USA) in 1993 as International Migratory Bird Day (IMBD), established by the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center in Washington, D.C., USA.

·         May Observance: Observed in the USA and Canada on the second Saturday of May, to mark spring migration north to breeding grounds.

·         October Observance: Celebrated in Mexico, Central & South America, and the Caribbean on the second Saturday of October, to mark autumn migration south to wintering habitats.

 

11.    WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2025– OCTOBER 10

·         World Mental Health Day (WMHD) is observed globally every year on 10th October to raise awareness and promote support for mental health.

·         2025 Theme: “Access to services – mental health in catastrophes and emergencies”.

·         The green ribbon is the global symbol of mental health, representing hope, strength, and support.

·         Actor Deepika Padukone has been appointed as the Mental Health Ambassador to promote awareness and access to mental health services.
