MY BHARAT NSS AWARD 2022-23
·
President of
India Droupadi Murmu presented the MY
Bharat-National Service Scheme (NSS) Awards for the year 2022-23
·
For year 2022-23, a total
of 50 recipients including NSS Units and Programme Officers (10+10),
and NSS Volunteers (30), received
the MY Bharat NSS award in recognition of their outstanding service and
leadership.
·
These awards were instituted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs
and Sports (MYAS) in 1993-94.
2.
NOBEL PRIZE IN PHYSICS
·
The Royal Swedish
Academy of Sciences awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics jointly
to John Clarke, Michel Henri Devoret, and John
Matthew Martinis for their discovery of macroscopic quantum mechanical tunnelling and energy quantisation
in an electric circuit in Stockholm, Sweden.
·
The laureates demonstrated that quantum mechanics governs
macroscopic systems, with Josephson junctions underpinning quantum computers, flash memory, and ultra-precise
quantum sensors.
·
Prize Includes
a gold medal, personal diploma, and cash
award.
·
Cash Award: Swedish
Kronor (SEK) 11 million, shared among the three laureates.
3. NOBEL PRIZE IN CHEMISTRY
·
2025 Nobel Prize in
Chemistry was jointly awarded to Japanese Chemist Susumu
Kitagawa, Australian Chemist Richard
Robson, and Jordanian-American
chemist Omar Mwannes Yaghi for the development
of Metal–Organic
Frameworks (MOFs) during a ceremony held
in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry
has been awarded 117 times to 200
laureates between 1901 and 2025.
·
Nobel laureates receive a gold medal, a personal diploma, and a cash
award.
·
The total cash prize for the
Nobel Prize in 2025 is 11 million
Swedish kronor (SEK), to be shared among the three aureates.

NOBEL
PRIZE IN LITERATURE 2025
·
The Royal
Swedish Academy of Sciences awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature
2025 to Hungarian author Laszlo Krasznahorkai “for
his compelling and visionary oeuvre
that, in the midst of apocalyptic terror,
reaffirms the power of art.”
·
He
became the second Hungarian author to win the Nobel Prize in Literature,
following Imre Kertesz in 2002.
·
He
is Known for Satantango (1985)
and The Melancholy of Resistance (1989).
·
Between
1901 and 2025, a total of 118 Nobel Prizes in Literature have
been awarded to 122 laureates, including 18 women.
·
The
total cash prize for 2025 is 11 million Swedish kronor (SEK), approximately USD
1.2 million.

FORBES
INDIA RICH LIST 2025
·
Forbes, an American
global media company has released the latest edition of Forbes 100
India’s Richest 2025’ List.
·
Mukesh Ambani, has retained the top spot as India’s Richest
Man with a net worth of USD 105 billion, marking his 14th
consecutive year at the top despite a 12% decline from the previous year.
·
Gautam Adani, has again ranked at 2nd position
on the list, with total wealth of USD 92 billion.
·
He
is followed by Savitri Jindal, the matriarch of OP Jindal
Group, has also reclaimed 3rd spot on the list with net worth
of USD 40.2 billion.
·

NOBEL
PEACE PRIZE 2025
·
Nobel
Peace Prize was awarded
to Maria Corina Machado, a Venezuelan
opposition leader, for her “tireless
work promoting democratic rights” and her “struggle for a peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”
at the Norwegian Nobel Institute in Oslo, Norway.
·
She
became the first Venezuelan to win
the Nobel Peace Prize in 2025.
·
She
is National Coordinator of Vente
Venezuela, a liberal political party she co-founded in 2013.
·
From
1901 to 2024, 106 Nobel Peace Prizes
have been awarded to 143 laureates, including 112 individuals and 31
organizations (including multiple awards).
·
The
total cash prize for 2025 is 11 million Swedish kronor (SEK), approximately USD
1.2 million.

ISSF JUNIOR WORLD
CUP 2025
·
The International Shooting Sport Federation
(ISSF) Junior World Cup Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun
2025, final stage, concluded in New Delhi, India.
·
India
finishes at the top in the medal tally with a
total of 26 medals, including 8 golds.
·
The event marked the 11th edition
of the ISSF Junior World Cup, and the first
ever hosted in India.
·
Individual Neutral
Athletes (AIN) placed 2nd with 5 Gold and total 12 medals.

12TH WORLD PARA ATHLETICS
CHAMPIONSHIPS
·
The 12th edition of
the World Para Athletics Championships (WPAC) – 2025, held in New
Delhi.
·
India
became the first country in South Asia
to host the prestigious championship.
·
The previous edition (11th)
of the event in 2024 was held in Kobe, Japan.
·
The event witnessed participation from 100 nations.
·
Brazil has topped the
medal tally with a total of 44 medals
(15 Gold, 20 Silver, and 9 Bronze).
·
China positioned second place
with 52 medals (13 Gold), and Iran as third with
15 medals (9 Gold).
·
India secured 22
medals, including 6 Gold, 9 Silver,
and 7 Bronze medals, finishing 10th in the overall medal
tally.

F1 SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX
·
George Russell from
the United Kingdom (UK), representing Germany-based Mercedes-Benz,
won the 24th Edition of the Formula One (F1) Singapore
Grand Prix.
·
Belgian-Dutch driver Max
Verstappen (Red Bull Racing) secures second placed
and Britain-driver Lando Norris (McLaren) finished third.
10.
INDIA-UK MARITIME EXERCISE
‘KONKAN-2025’
·
The
India Navy (IN) and the Royal Navy (RN) of the United Kingdom (UK), have
initiated the bilateral maritime exercise
‘KONKAN-2025’ off India’s western coast.
·
For the first time, assets
from Norway and Japan are participating
in KONKAN.
·
It
is held in two phases Harbour Phase Sea
Phase.
11.
10TH NATPOLREX-X AND 27TH
NOSDCP EXERCISE
·
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) carried out the 10th
National Level Pollution Response
Exercise (NATPOLREX-X) in conjunction with the 27th National Oil Spill Disaster
Contingency Plan (NOSDCP) & Preparedness off the coast of
Chennai, Tamil Nadu (TN).
·
The “Samudri Paryavaran Sanrakshan Trophy” was given to the New Mangalore Port Authority(Karnataka)
and the “Tel Udyog Samudri Paryavaran Sanrakshan Trophy”
to ONGC (Western Offshore) for their outstanding environmental protection
initiatives during the NOSDCP meeting.
12.
ICG
CONDUCTED TWO-DAY RESAREX-25
·
The
Indian Coast Guard (ICG) of
Karnataka unit conducted a two-day ‘Regional Search and Rescue Exercise (ReSAREX-25)’ at
Arabian Sea off the Panambur coast in Mangaluru, Karnataka.
·
Objective
is to evaluate and
enhance the collective preparedness and coordination among all maritime search
and rescue stakeholders in handling mass rescue operations at sea.
13.
SEBI LAUNCHES VALIDATED UPI
HANDLES
·
The Securities and Exchange
Board of India (SEBI) unveiled two significant initiatives, namely Unified Payment Interface (UPI) Handles and SEBI
Check, to safeguard investors
against fraudulent transfers and unauthorised
intermediaries.
·
These initiatives which bring in a new layer of trust and
transparency in the capital market are developed in collaboration with
National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI).
·
SEBI has introduced
exclusive “@valid” UPI IDs
for all registered investor-facing intermediaries, including brokers and mutual
funds (MF).
·
SEBI confirmed that major brokers covering over 90% of investors,
along with all MFs have already
adopted the “@valid” UPI handle.
·
Apart from the @valid,
which indicates the verified status, a suffix indicating the
type of intermediary, for e.g.. brk for brokers and .mf for
MF will be added along.
·
When an investor initiates
a UPI payment to a registered entity
using a @valid handle, a “thumbs-up” symbol enclosed in a green
triangle will appear on the
payment screen.
·
Its
absence serves as a red flag, alerting investors to
potential unauthorised recipients.
·
In addition, a distinct QR (Quick Response) code featuring
the same thumbs-up logo will be used for quick and error-free payments.
·
SEBI Check is
a self-verification tool that enables investors to confirm the authenticity of
SEBI-registered entities before making payments.
·
This facility can be used not only for UPI payments
but also for transfers made through NEFT
(National Electronic Funds Transfer), RTGS
(Real-Time Gross Settlement), and IMPS
(Immediate Payment Service).
·
Investors
can verify an intermediary’s bank account
number and IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) code or its @valid UPI ID through the SEBI Check portal available on the SEBI
website or SEBI Saarthi application (app).
·
The
SEBI, a market regulator was constituted as a non-statutory body on April 12, 1988
through a resolution of the Government of India (GoI) and was established as a statutory body in 1992.

14. NPCI LAUNCHES NEW SUBSIDIARY ‘NTSL’
·
The National Payments
Corporation of India (NPCI), apex body that
regulates the retail payment and settlement system in India, launched its new
tech subsidiary ‘NPCI Tech Solutions Limited (NTSL)’, aimed
at promoting experimentation and
breakthrough innovations in the financial technology (fintech) sector.
·
With this, NTSL now joins the list of existing subsidiaries of
NPCI: NPCI BHIM Services Limited (NBSL); NPCI
International Payments Limited (NIPL); and NPCI
Bharat BillPay Limited (NBBL).
·
NTSL, headquartered in Mumbai was
set up to drive fintech innovation and develop scalable payment solutions.
·
It focuses on R&D (Research &
Development), prototyping new payment technologies, improving interoperability
(cross-border payments, Unified Payments Interface(UPI), RuPay), and supporting
India’s digital economy.
·
NTSL commenced operations
with an authorized capital of Rs.1.00
million and a paid-up capital of
Rs.0.50 million.
·
NPCI was launched as a joint initiative of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and
India Banks’ Association (IBA). It was set up under the provisions of
Payment and Settlement Systems (PSS) Act, 2007.

15.
RBI
CANCELLED LICENCE OF JIJAMATA MAHILA SAHAKARI BANK
·
The Reserve Bank of
India (RBI) has cancelled the banking licence
of Jijamata Sahakari Bank (based in Satara, Maharashtra), Urban Co-operative Bank (UCB), due to
the bank’s poor financial position
and failure to comply with regulatory norms under the Banking
Regulation Act, 1949.
·
Earlier, Satara-based UCB licence was cancelled vide an order dated on June 30, 2016 and was later restored on October 23, 2019 on an appeal made by the bank.
·
The Appellate Authority instructed a forensic audit of
the bank to be conducted for Financial Year 2013-14 (FY14) to evaluate the
financial position of bank.
·
In its order, RBI highlighted
that the bank lacks sufficient capital and earning prospects, and requested
the Maharashtra Registrar Co-operative Societies to initiate the UCB’s
winding-up process and appoint a liquidator.
·
As per RBI directions, every depositor will receive deposit insurance claim
amount of his or her deposits of maximum Rs 5 lakh from
Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC).
