1. SOLICITOR GENERAL OF INDIA
·
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet
(ACC), chaired by PM
Narendra Modi, approved the reappointment
of Solicitor General of India (SGI) Tushar Mehta for
a further three-year term effective from 1 July 2026,
making him one of the longest-serving
Solicitors General in India’s history.
·
The SGI is the second-highest law officer of the Union Government after the Attorney General for India(AGI).
2. META
HEAD
·
CRED Founder Kunal Shah reportedly
joined Meta Platforms Inc. and was appointed to lead WhatsApp globally.
·
Kunal Shah will lead WhatsApp globally at
Meta, which remains a minority investor in CRED.
3. PM
OF ETHIOPIA
·
Ethiopian Prime
Minister Abiy Ahmed’s Prosperity Party (PP)
secured a landslide victory in Ethiopia’s
general election retaining its overwhelming parliamentary majority and
paving the way for Abiy Ahmed to begin a second consecutive
five-year term as PM.
·
He
was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 for his
efforts in resolving the long-standing conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
4. DIRECTOR
OF INTELLIGENCE BUREAU (IB)
·
The Appointments Committee of the
Cabinet (ACC), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra
Modi, approved the appointment of Mahesh
Dixit, a 1993-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer
of the Andhra Pradesh (AP) cadre, as the next
Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), India’s premier internal
intelligence agency for two years.

He will
succeed Tapan Kumar Deka.
5. INDIA
ASSUMES VICE-PRESIDENCY OF FATF
·
India was elected as Vice-President of
the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for the first
time, responsible for combating money
laundering and counter-terrorist financing, following the FATF Plenary
meeting held in Paris, France.
·
Vivek Aggarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Culture (MoC),
Government of India (GoI) has been appointed Vice-President of
the FATF for the term July 2026 to June
2027 and succeeds Giles Thomson, United
Kingdom.
·
The
Plenary also appointed Giles Thomson as the next FATF President starting July 1,
2026.
6. INDIA
UNVEILS FIRST DIGITAL SPACE-SECTOR CAPABILITIES REPOSITORY
·
India’s
1st digital repository of space-sector capabilities
named “Indian Space Industry E-Catalogue” was
launched at the 5th edition of Indian Space
Congress (ISC) 2026 held in New Delhi.
·
It is a comprehensive digital database,
developed by the Satcom Industry Association (SIA)-India, bringing
together over 200 verified space and defence companies across nearly 20 domains
and over 120 sub-domains.

FOUR DIGITAL POLICING APPS
FOR ICJS
·
Union Minister Amit Shah,
Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Minister
of Cooperation, launched four
digital policing applications (App) National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)
-Abhigyan, Criminal Procedure
Identification (CrPI), electronic (e)-Prosecution
2.0 and e-Forensics 2.0, at the 26th
All India Fingerprint Conference in New Delhi.

The 26th All India Fingerprint Conference
2026 was organized by NCRB, an agency
under MHA, which was responsible for developing the four apps.
8. INDIA
BECOMES WORLD’S TOP SHIP RECYCLING NATION IN 2025
·
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and
Waterways (MoPSW) announced that India became
the world’s leading ship recycling nation in
2025, raising its global share
to 35.4% and increasing volumes to 2.99
million gross tons (GT), a nearly 60% rise from 1.86 million GT,
there by surpassing its Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030 target
five years ahead of schedule.

This achievement was reported in the United Nations Conference on Trade
and Development (UNCTAD) report titled ‘Review of Maritime Transport 2025’.
9. BRICS
NATIONAL SECURITY ADVISERS’ MEETING
·
The 16th BRICS (Brazil,
Russia, India, China, and South Africa) National Security
Advisers’ (NSA) Meeting was held in New Delhi, Delhi, under India’s BRICS Chairship, chaired
by Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor of India (NSA).
·
The
meeting was held under the theme
“Non-Traditional Security Challenges Confronting the World Today”.
·
The BRICS
Heads of Space Agencies (HOSA) meeting was held in Bengaluru,
Karnataka, hosted by the Indian Space Research Organisation
(ISRO) and Department of Space (DoS) with support from the Ministry of External
Affairs (MEA) with participation from all BRICS members.
·
The
11th BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting was held in Gurugram,
Haryana, under India’s BRICS
Chairship 2026 with the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation,
Cooperation and Sustainability” and the Energy Track theme “Energy for All”.
·
The First
BRICS Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Forum and Third Small and Medium Enterprises (SME)
Working Group Meeting were held in Agra, Uttar
Pradesh (UP) under the theme “Building
for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”.

G7 SUMMIT
·
The 52nd Group of
Seven (G-7) Summit was held in in Haute-Savoie, France.
·
The 3-day long summit was hosted under France’s G7 Presidency,
led by French President Emmanuel Macron.
·
The G7
Summit 2026 organized under the theme “Working
Together to Address Major International Challenges”.
·
Prime Minister Narendra
Modi represented India at the summit, marking the
country’s 13th appearance at the summit as a partner country.
·
Summit adopted of the “Leaders’ Declaration on Tackling Migrant Smuggling”, to curb migrant smuggling and human trafficking.
·
Introduction of the “Partnership
On Wide Energy and Resources Resilience (POWERR Asia)” by
Japanese PM Takaichi, to provide nearly USD 10 billion in financial
assistance to strengthen energy and critical minerals supply chains.
·
Unveiling of the Declaration on Critical Minerals Supply Chains.
·
Signing of a 14-point agreement, which
is MoU between the USA and Iran to
halt the ongoing West Asia conflict.
·
The 53rd edition of G7 Summit will be hosted by the USA.
