1. WORLD
NATURE CONSERVATION DAY 2026 – JULY 28
·
World Nature Conservation Day (WNCD) is
observed every year on 28 July to raise awareness
about protecting natural resources, biodiversity and ecosystems.
·
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) designated
28 July as WNCD following the 1972 United Nations
(UN) Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm, Sweden, marking a
milestone in global environmental conservation.
·
The day supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13
(Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
2.
INTERNATIONAL TIGER DAY 2026
– JULY 29
·
International Tiger Day was established in 2010 during
the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit held
in Russia, where the St. Petersburg Declaration on Tiger Conservation was
adopted by 13 Tiger Range Countries (TRCs) to officially recognize July 29 as
Global Tiger Day.
·
The first Global Tiger Day
was observed on July 29, 2011.
3. World
Day Against Trafficking in Persons 2026 – July 30
·
The United Nations (UN) World Day Against
Trafficking in Persons is observed annually across the globe on July 30 to
raise awareness about human trafficking.
·
Theme: “Trapped Behind the Scam”.
·
The first observance was held on July
30, 2014.
4. WORLD
RANGER DAY 2026 – JULY 31
·
World Ranger Day (WRD)
is observed annually on 31 July to honour Rangers
who were killed or injured in the line of duty and recognise their vital role
in protecting the world’s natural and cultural heritage.
·
2026 Theme: “Rangers: Guardians of a Changing
Planet”.
·
First Observation: The first World Ranger Day was observed
on 31 July 2007, marking the 15th anniversary of the
founding of the IRF.
5. INTERNATIONAL
DAY OF FRIENDSHIP 2026 – JULY 30
·
The United Nations (UN) observes the International
Day of Friendship (World Friendship Day) annually on 30
July to promote peace, solidarity, and mutual understanding
through friendship across cultures and communities.
·
The concept originated in 1930, when
Joyce Hall, founder of Hallmark Cards, proposed Friendship Day.
·
The first UN-recognised
International Day of Friendship was observed on 30 July 2011.
6. INDIA
TO USE PRODUCER PRICE INDEX (PPI) FOR GDP DEFLATION
·
The Ministry of Statistics and Programme
Implementation (MoSPI) announced plans to use the
output Producer Price Index (PPI) as
a deflator for quarterly and annual
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) estimates, replacing the Wholesale Price Index (WPI) wherever
applicable.
·
The PPI
series was released by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal
Trade (DPIIT) in June 2026 to
support improved GDP measurement and align India’s national accounts with
international standards.
·
The output PPI will
be used for GDP deflation to improve
the accuracy of real growth measurement and reduce distortions in GDP
estimates.
·
The revised GDP series updated the base year to 2022–23 from 2011–12 and
adopted double deflation, which
separately adjusts output and input prices.
·
The
WPI will be phased out as a GDP deflator, while the CPI will
continue for specific granular items; the earlier single deflation
method using WPI for output and input prices was replaced due to
growth estimation distortions.
·
PPI
measures price changes received by producers for goods and
services and is used for accurate GDP deflation.
7. GOI APPROVES
RBI FIELD TRIALS OF RS 10 AND RS 20 POLYMER CURRENCY NOTES
·
The Government of India (GoI) approved the
Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) proposal to conduct
field trials of one billion (Bn) polymer banknotes each
in the Rs. 10 and Rs. 20 denominations, marking a
significant step towards evaluating more
durable currency notes in India.
·
The RBI, with the recommendation of its
Central Board, had sent a proposal to the government in terms of Section
25 of the RBI Act, 1934, for the introduction of Rs 10 and Rs 20
polymer banknotes, worth Rs 3000 crores (Cr) for
field trials.
·
Polymer Notes: RBI
polymer notes are printed on a non-fibrous and non-porous polymer substrate
rather than conventional banknote paper.
8. OPEN
SECURE AI ALLIANCE
·
NVIDIA, Microsoft Corporation and IBM,
along with several technology companies and research institutions, launched the
Open Secure AI Alliance (OSAA) an
open industry initiative aimed at
enhancing the security, trustworthiness, and resilience of Artificial
Intelligence (AI) systems through open collaboration and shared security
standards.
·
This new initiative was launched days after the latest cyber incident at Hugging Face,
where through an AI system, the company’s infrastructure was breached during a
security evaluation.
·
The
newly launched alliance comprises over 35 inaugural members.
9. RBI
DELAYS IMPLEMENTATION OF BASEL III DISCLOSURE RULES
·
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
delayed the implementation of its revised Basel Pillar III disclosure
framework for banks by 6 months to April 1, 2027, in
response to implementation difficulties expressed by the stakeholders.
·
The RBI issued 10 amendment directions
revising its Basel Pillar 3 disclosure framework for commercial banks (CB), small finance banks (SFB) and payments banks (PB).
·
Half-yearly
disclosures will commence with the period ending September 30,
2027, and annual disclosures are slated to begin for the fiscal year
concluding March 31, 2028.
