1. INDONESIA RELEASES RAMAYANA STAMP
Indonesia released a special stamp on the theme of Ramayana at the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between India and Indonesia.
Indonesian sculptor Padmashri Bapak Nyoman Nuart designed the stamp and it features a scene from Hindu epic Ramayana in which Jatayu valiantly fought to save Sita. A specially signed version of the stamp will be on display at the philately museum, jakarta.

2. INDIA TO BE GUEST OF HONOUR COUNTRY AT 29TH ABU DHABI INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR
The 29th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair started and India has been nominated as the “Guest of Honour” country which reflects the strong relations between the leadership and the people of the UAE and India.
The fair aims to highlight the UAE’s rich heritage, showcase its authenticity, and cultural. Navdeep Suri, Indian Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates launched his book, “Inked in Blood and Spirit of Freedom” which is the English translation of poem ‘Khooni Baisakhi’ on  Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

3. IRAN IN COLLABORATION WITH PAKISTAN HAVE AGREED TO SET UP JOINT BORDER ‘REACTION FORCE’ TO FIGHT TERRORISM
Iranian President Hassan Rohani and visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan have agreed for setting up a joint border ‘Reaction Force‘ to combat the attacks by militant groups on both sides their frontier.
The Iran-Pakistan border encompasses the south-eastern Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchestan (the second largest province of Iran with its capital Zahedan) where frequent attacks on Iran’s security forces have taken place.

1. THE AUTHORISED CAPITAL OF ALLAHABAD BANK RAISED TO RS. 8000 CRORE BY THE GOVERNMENT
The central government has increased the authorized capital of state-owned Allahabad Bank from Rs. 3,000 crore to Rs. 8,000 crore after consultation with the Reserve Bank of India.
This move by the central government has enabled Allahabad bank to raise further fund up to a maximum ceiling of Rs. 8,000 crore.

2. DEPOSITS IN JAN DHAN ACCOUNTS ARE SET TO CROSS RS 1 LAKH CRORE MARK
The total deposits in Jan Dhan Account are set to cross Rs 1 lakh crore soon. The scheme was launched on 28th August 2014 by the Modi-government with an aim to provide universal access to banking facilities to all households.
The total balance in the Jan Dhan accounts was at Rs 97,665.66 and the total number of Jan Dhan accounts crossed 35.39 crores. Also, more than 27.89 crores account holders have been issued the Rupay debit cards.
Recently, the government increased the accident insurance cover to Rs 2 lakh from Rs 1 lakh for new accounts opened after 28th August 2018 and the overdraft limit was also doubled to Rs 10,000.

1. INDIA RANKS 19TH OUT OF 28 COUNTRIES IN INDEX OF CANCER PREPAREDNESS
The Economist Intelligence Unit has released the 2019 Index of Cancer Preparedness in which out of 28 countries India is in 19th position from the top. Cancer in 2018 caused 9.6 million deaths worldwide making it the 2nd biggest killer.
Top 3 nations in the index are: Australia followed by the Netherlands and Germany.
Bottom 3 nations are: Saudi Arabia, Romania and Egypt.

2. ANTI-SUBMARINE WARFARE DRILL CONDUCTED BY INDIAN, US NAVIES IN INDIAN OCEAN
Indian and the US navies conducted joint submarine hunting exercise near Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
The objective of this exercise is to lay the groundwork for coordinating maritime patrol and reconnaissance anti-submarine training, information sharing and coordination between maritime patrol aircraft and surface combatants.

3. AMARTYA SEN CHAIRS AT THE LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS AND POLITICAL SCIENCE FOR RESEARCH ON INEQUALITY
To honor the Indian Nobel laureate Amartya Sen, the London School of Economics and Political Science has created the Amartya Sen Chair in Inequality Studies.
He will also serve as the director of the LSE International Inequalities Institute, focused on studying and challenging some of the most pressing issues.

1. THE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS CELL OF KERALA AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY SELECTED FOR THE NATIONAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AWARD 2019
The Intellectual Property Rights cell of Kerala Agricultural University has been selected for the National Intellectual Property Award 2019 for its contributions in best facilitation for registration of Geographical Indications and promotion of registered GI in the country.
The award was constituted by the Indian Intellectual Property Office under the central ministry of industry and commerce to confer the persons and organizations working in the field of patents, trademarks and Geographical Indications.

2. INDIA RANKED 17TH IN THE GLOBAL STARTUP ECOSYSTEM FROM 37
India ranked at 17th position among 100 countries in 2018, from the 37th spot in 2017 in the Startup Ecosystem Ranking for 2019.
The United States, United Kingdom, and Canada are the top three countries ranked in terms of global rankings.
Bengaluru, New Delhi, and Mumbai are the cities with the most vibrant startup ecosystems in India with rank 11th,18th and 29th.

1. UNION TERRITORIES AND TWENTY STATES JOIN PAN-INDIA SINGLE EMERGENCY HELPLINE NUMBER ‘112’
To get immediate assistance to the people who are in trouble, Union territories and Twenty states have joined in a pan-India network of single emergency helpline number ‘112’,which is implemented by central government’s Nirbhaya Fund.
Police (100), women (1090) and fire(101) helpline numbers are amalgamated in this and is similar to ‘911’ in US. When a person activate the panic button on the mobile,it will trigger an emergency call to 112.

2. INDIA’S HAJ QUOTA INCREASED TO 2 LAKH BY SAUDI ARABIA
India’s Haj Quota has been increased by about 25,000, raising the number to 2 lakh from 1.75 lakh by Saudi Arabia.
This will help the huge number of pilgrim of Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, and Bihar to embark pilgrimage this year.
This year, the GST on Haj pilgrimage has been reduced from 18 percent to 5 percent which will ensure that about Rs 113 crore will be saved by pilgrims during the 2019 Haj.

3. ASIAN TEA ALLIANCE LAUNCHED IN CHINA
To boost tea trade,cultural and technical exchanges as well as global promotion of tea,the Asian Tea Alliance a union of five tea-growing and consuming countries,was opened in Guizhou,China.
The alliance was constituted with Indian Tea Association,Indonesian tea Marketing Association,China tea marketing Association,Sri Lanka Tea Board and tea Association.
This Alliance was formed to promote tea consumption in India, China, U.S., Russia, Europe and West Asia.

1. CABINET APPROVED THE FUNDS FOR IMPLEMENTING 10% EWS QUOTA
Rs. 4315.15 crores budget has been approved by Union Cabinet headed by PM Narendra Modi, to create over 2 lakhs additional seats in 158 central education institutions.
The step is taken in the backdrop of the 103rd Constitutional Amendment Act, which provides 10 percent reservations to Economic Weaker Sections in government jobs and educational institutions.
To implement this 10 percent EWS quota, the government has asked all educational institutions to increase their intake by 25 percent so that it would not result in the reduction of seats available to SC, ST, OBC and general category.

2. LOC TRADE BETWEEN J&K AND POJK HAS BEEN SUSPENDED AFTER MHA ORDERS
Ministry of Home Affairs issued an order to suspend the LOC trade between Jammu & Kashmir and Pakistan occupied Jammu & Kashmir due to an increase in terror funding, drug trade and fake currencies among other illegal activities by misusing trade routes.
The trade between J&K and POJK is allowed through two Trade Facilitation centers. First, one located at Salamabad, Uri, district Baramulla and the second one located at Chakkan-da-Bagh, district Poonch.
LOC trade is misused by unscrupulous and anti-national as a channel for hawala money, drugs and weapons.

3. 150 INDIAN PEACEKEEPERS HONOURED WITH UN MEDAL FOR THEIR SERVICE IN UN MISSION IN SOUTH SUDAN
The UN Mission in South Sudan awarded 150 Indian peacekeepers with Medals of Honour for serving the mission with extreme dedication and sacrifice.
Colonel Amit Gupta who commands a battalion of 850 soldiers in the Upper Nile region, South Sudan was 1 among the recipients of the Medal of Honour.
India is at present, the 2nd largest contributor of peacekeepers to UNMISS with more than 2,400 military and police personnel deployed as peacekeepers under the UNMISS.
