1.        Railway cleanliness  survey 2019
ü  Three railway stations of Rajasthan, Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Durgapura have topped the Railway Cleanliness Survey 2019, conducted at 720 railway stations by the Ministry of Railways.
Mumbai’s Andheri, Virar and Naigaon stations have topped the total 109 stations in the category of suburban stations
2.    S. Mallikarjuna Rao -MD and CEO of PNB
ü  S. S. Mallikarjuna Rao was appointed as the MD and Chief Executive of the Punjab National Bank(PNB).  Currently serving as chief executive of the Allahabad Bank.

1.    WTO cuts global trade growth forecast
ü  The World Trade Organisation (WTO) in its report reduced the global trade growth forecast to 1.2% for 2019 from 2.6% due to trade tensions and sluggish global economy.
ü  It is the weakest level in a decade. The global trade growth forecast for 2020 was reduced to 2.7% from 3%.

ü 7th World Hindu Economic Forum (WHEF) 2019 held at Hotel Grand Hyatt  in Mumbai, Maharashtra from 27- 29, September, 2019  with the theme “Prosperous Society: Stronger Society”.
2.   India’s first ‘Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS)’
ü Gujarat has launched India’s 1st trading program called “Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS)” in Surat, Gujarat to combat particulate air pollution.
ü It  is a market-based system where the government sets a cap on emissions and allows industries to buy and sell permits (in kilograms) to stay below the cap. For this reason, ETS is also called a cap-and-trade market.

ü CEO round-table meet 2019 (September 21, 2019)
In Houston, PM interacted with the CEOs from the US oil and gas sectors. CEOs of 17 global energy companies participated. Also MoU between US natural gas company Tellurian Inc. and Petronet LNG Limited (PLL) of India was signed.
ü PM Modi attended the “Howdy, Modi” event at NRG stadium in Houston, Texas along with the US President Donald J Trump.
ü PM addressed the 74th Edition of United Nations (UN) Climate Action Summit 2019 in New York under the theme “Climate Action Summit 2019: A Race We Can Win. A Race We Must Win”
ü The India-Pacific Islands Developing States (PSIDS) Leaders’ Meeting was held in New York .He invited leaders to join the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
ü He extended an invitation to all the leaders for the 3rd Forum for India-Pacific Island Cooperation (FIPIC) Summit to be held in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea in first half of 2020.
ü Prime Minister Modi, inaugurated the 50-kilowatt Gandhi Solar Park at the UN Headquarters, New York and Gandhi Peace Garden at State University of New York College.
ü The special commemorative event ‘Leadership Matters: Relevance of Gandhi in the Contemporary World’ was hosted by Modi in New York.
ü  A special UN Postage stamp on Gandhi’s 150 years issued by the UN Postal Administration.
ü India gifted 193 solar panels, one panel each 193 UN member states at UN headquarter.
ü PM Modi received the Global Goalkeeper Award 2019 by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (SBA).

2.    UN Climate Action Summit 2019
ü United Nations Climate Action Summit 2019 was held in the UN Headquarters in New York, United States in order to meet the urgent need to address climate change; to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and to galvanize action that can limit climate change to 2°C and even to 1.5°C. Luis Alfonso de Alba was the Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the 2019 Climate Action Summit.
ü The theme of this summit was “Climate Action Summit 2019: A Race We Can Win. A Race We Must Win”.

2.      RBI  prohibited PMC Bank business transactions
ü  The country’s central bank, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has prohibited Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank Limited (PMC) on business transactions of any kind for the next 6 months following the detection of alleged irregularities. The RBI has taken this action under section 35A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
ü  Under this decree, no depositor can withdraw more than 1,000 thousand money from his savings account.

2.    IMPS rated as the world’s best real-time payment service
ü  US based research firm Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) in its 6th annual Flavours of Fast report for 2019 rated India’s Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) as the world’s best real-time payment service.
ü  It is an instant payment inter-bank electronic funds transfer system in India managed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI)

1.    PMMVY scheme crossed 1 crore beneficiaries
ü  Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) achieved a mark of reaching 1 crore (1,00,11,200) beneficiaries in India. The total amount disbursed under the scheme crossed Rs. 4,000 crores.
ü  PMMVY is a flagship scheme of the Government for Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers (PW&LM). It is a direct benefit transfer (DBT) scheme under which PW&LM receive a cash benefit of Rs. 5,000 in three installments on fulfilling certain conditions.
2.    NEAT Scheme for Higher Education learning
ü  Union Ministry HRD has announced a new scheme named National Educational Alliance for Technology (NEAT) for better learning outcomes in higher education and is expected to be operational in early november 2019.
ü  The main objective of this scheme is to use Artificial Intelligence(AI) in making personalized learning and will be developed through Public-private partnership (PPP) model.

ü  5 days maiden trilateral exercise of Singapore, India and Thailand named SITMEX (Singapore-India-Thailand Maritime Exercise) was commenced at Port Blair.
2.       SCO exercise “Tsentr (centre) 2019”
ü  Opening ceremony of exercise “TSENTR 2019” which forms part of the Russian Armed Forces’ annual training cycle, under the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation(SCO) and Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), was conducted at the DONGUZ ranges  near Orenburg, Russia. 8 SCO member countries are participating .

2.       IBSF World Billiards Championship 2019
ü  India’s top billiards and snooker player, Pankaj Advani has won the 22nd world title of his career with the fourth consecutive IBSF (International Billiards & Snooker Federation) World Billiards title 2019  in Mandalay, Myanmar.
ü  Advani won the final with 6–2 scores against Nay Thway Oo of Myanmar.

1)       NPCI reduced merchant discount rate
ü  National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has rationalized merchant discount rate (MDR) on transactions with RuPay debit cards. The new rate will be effective from 20 October 2019.
ü  MDR has been revised to 0.60 percent on transactions above Rs 2,000. There will be a maximum of Rs 150 per transaction.
ü  Currently, MDR of 0.90 percent is charged on transactions above Rs 2,000. The maximum limit was fixed at Rs 1,000 per transaction.

ü  Narendra Modi launched nationwide campaign “Swachhta Hi Seva 2019”(SHS) in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh(UP). The theme for 2019 is ‘plastic waste awareness and management’.
ü  This SHS which means “Cleanliness is service” is observed from 11th September to October 2nd 2019 as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
2.        SBI revises service charges
ü  State Bank of India(SBI) has announced revision in charges of deposits and withdrawals that will be effective from October 1, 2019. The new revision is applicable to cash withdrawals, non-maintenance in Average Monthly Balance(AMB) and deposits.

2)       Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved $ 200 million loan to upgrade about 2,100 kilometers of rural roads to all-weather standards in Maharashtra.
3)       19th Annual Asian Achievers Awards 2019
ü  The founder and Chairman of Vedanta Resources LimitedAnil Agarwal (65) has been given the lifetime achievement award at the 19th  Annual Asian Achievers Awards 2019.
4)       Vijay Kumar Chopra elected as Chairman of PTI.
ü  Vijay Kumar Chopra, who is the Chief Editor of the Punjab Kesari Group of newspapers, was elected Chairman of PTI succeeding N Ravi, publisher and former Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu.
ü  Also Vineet Jain were elected as Vice Chairman of PTI.
5)       ISRO lost Contact with Vikram Lander
ü  The communication from Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram lander to ISRO  ground station was lost before its soft landing on the south pole of the Moon. The contact was lost when the lander was 2.1km away from the surface of the moon.
ü  Chandrayaan-2 was launched on July 22, 2019, from GSLV Mk-III, nicknamed ‘Bahubali’ from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.Project consisted of 3 components namely the Orbiter, the Lander ‘Vikram’, and the Rover Pragyan (27kg).
6)       BKSP  successfully won U17 Girls Subroto Cup
ü  Bangladesh Krida Shiksha Prothishtan (BKSP) has successfully retained the 60th edition of the Under 17 Girls Subroto Cup International Football 2019 title by defeating Neelamani English School, Manipur with 4-0 scores in the final held in Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi.
7)       Nehru Trophy for the year 2019
ü  Snakeboat Nadubhagam Chundan  clinched the 67th Edition of the Nehru Trophy 2019 in the boat race held at the Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha, Kerala.
8)       Ram Jethmalani, Senior lawyer, and a former union law minister has passed away at his home in Delhi after suffering from prolonged illness. He was 95.
9)       International Literacy Day (ILD) was observed on September 8, 2019 with the theme ‘Literacy and Multilingualism’.

2)       Akash missile project for Air Force
ü  To strengthen the Indian Air Force (IAF), the central government has approved the procurement of 6 squadrons of indigenous Akash Air Defense missile for the Air Force at a cost of Rs 5,000 crore. They will be deployed along the borders with Pakistan and China.
