DEPUTY GOVERNOR OF
RBI
·
The Appointments Committee
of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment
of Shirish Chandhra Murmu as the Deputy
Governor of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a three-year term
effective from October 9, 2025.
·
He will be succeeding Rajeshwar Rao, who is
currently the deputy governor in charge of banking regulation and other
portfolios whose extended term ends on October 8, 2025.
·
With his appointment, the RBI’s four deputy governors will be Murmu, T. Rabi Sankar, Swaminathan
Janakiraman, and Poonam Gupta.

BCCI President
·
Mithun Manas, former Delhi Cricket Captain, was elected as the 37th
President of the Board
of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at its 94th Annual
General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai.
·
He succeeded former India all-rounder Roger Binny,
who had stepped down in August 2025.
·
He is the third consecutive
former cricketer to become BCCI president, after Sourav Ganguly
and Roger Binny.
·
Vice-President: Rajeev
Shukla continues in his role.
·
Secretary: Devajit Saikia (retained position).
·
Joint Secretary: Prabhatej Singh Bhatia.
·
Treasurer: A. Raghuram Bhat (former Karnataka and India spinner).

OF NCC
·
Lieutenant
General Virendra Vats assumed charge
as the 35th Director General (DG) of National Cadets Crops (NCC).
He succeeds Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, who retired from service
on September 30, 2025.
·
He
takes charge as NCC, the world’s largest
uniformed youth body, expands its cadet strength to 20 lakhs across 28 states and 8 Union Territories (UTs).

MOSPI RELEASES
“ENVIRONMENTAL ACCOUNTING ON FOREST – 2025”
·
Ministry of Statistics and
Programme Implementation (MoSPI) compiled and
released the 8th edition of its
environmental-accounts report, the first dedicated report on forest accounting
during the 29th Conference of
Central and State Statistical Organizations (CoCSSO) held
in Chandigarh.
·
India’s forest cover grew
by 17,444.61 Square Kilometre (sq. km), reaching 7.15 lakh sq. km (21.76%
of geographical area) from 2010-11 to 2021-22.
·
As per the report, from
2010-11 to 2021-22, forest cover grew in states such as Kerala by
4,137 sq.km, Karnataka (3,122 sq. km), and Tamil Nadu (TN) (2,606 sq. km).
·
India’s forest extent
account recorded a net increase of 3,356
sq. km between 2013 and 2023, mainly due to reclassification and boundary adjustments.
·
The RFA of states such as Uttarakhand grew by
6.3%, Odisha (1.97%), and Jharkhand (1.9%), with total RFA increased slightly
from 23.48% to 23.59%.

HIMACHAL PRADESH’S
COLD DESERT BIOSPHERE RESERVE GETS UNESCO TAG
·
The 37th Session
of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s (UNESCO)
International Coordinating Council for the Man and the Biosphere (MAB)
Programme was held in Paris, France.
·
During this session, India’s Cold
Desert Biosphere Reserve (CDBR), Himachal Pradesh (HP)
was included in the World Network of
Biosphere Reserves (WNBR).
·
The Cold Desert becomes
India’s 13th biosphere
reserve to enter the UNESCO WNBR.
·
The reserve spans 7,770 sq.km (square kilometre) across HP’s Lahaul-Spiti
district.
·
India also added two
new Ramsar sites from Bihar, Gokul Jalashay (448
hectare (ha)) in Buxar district and Udaipur Jheel (319
ha) in West Champaran district of Bihar.
·
With 93 Ramsar sites spanning
13,60,719 ha, India is 1st in Asia in terms of
the number of sites and 3rd in the world overall after the UK (176) and Mexico
(144).

PM WORLD FOOD INDIA
2025
·
PM Narendra Modi inaugurated World Food India 2025, a
flagship global food event,
organized by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), in
New Delhi, Delhi.
·
Countries such as New Zealand and Saudi Arabia have been
designated as Partner Countries, and
Japan, United Arab Emirates (UAE),
Vietnam, and Russia participated as
Focus Countries.
·
Focus States: It includes Andhra Pradesh (AP), Tamil Nadu (TN), Maharashtra, and
Odisha.
·
Theme: “Processing for Prosperity”.

INTEREST
RATES ON SMALL SAVINGS SCHEMES
·
The
Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) under the Ministry of
Finance (MoF), announced that the interest
rates of Small Savings Scheme (SSS) will remain unchanged, for 3rd
Quarter of Financial Year 2025-26 (Q3 FY26), i.e. from
October 1, 2025, to December 31, 2025.
·
This
marks the seventh consecutive
quarter with no change in SSS interest rates, which were last revised by
the DEA in Q4 of FY24.
·
Small
Savings Schemes (SSS) are
government-backed instruments in India that offer safe investment options
with fixed returns, aimed at promoting household savings.
·
The
schemes are primarily managed by the DEA
and administered through designated banks and over 1.5 lakh Post Offices.
·
All deposits received under various SSS are pooled in the National Small Savings Fund (NSSF).
8. RAILWAY INDIGENOUS KAVACH SYSTEM
·
Successful
loco trials of KAVACH, an indigenously developed Automatic Train
Protection (ATP) system, was conducted at Somatne, Apta,
and Jite stations on the Panvel–Roha section of
the Mumbai division.
·
KAVACH aims to enhance rail safety by preventing
collisions including head-on and rear-end accidents and
reducing Signal Passed at Danger (SPAD) incidents.
·
It
includes automatic braking for missed
red signals, speed control in
restricted zones, onboard displays of signal aspects, speed limits, and movement authority, automatic whistling at level crossings, and an emergency SOS (distress signal) function.
·
Onboard KAVACH is being fitted at Bhusawal and Kalyan loco sheds in Maharashtra, with
Indian Railways (IR) rolling out the system in mission mode to equip 730 locomotives in CR’s first phase.

RSS CENTENARY
CELEBRATIONS
·
PM Narendra Modi addressed the celebration of the 100th year of
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
·
The event also marked the release of a commemorative postage stamp and a coin of Rs.100,
featuring an image of “Bharat Mata” on an Indian
currency for the first time.
·
RSS was established on
September 27, 1925, in Nagpur (Maharashtra) by Dr. Keshav Baliram as a
volunteer-based organization, with an aim to promote Hindutva (Hindu cultural
nationalism), social cohesion, discipline, and national pride among Hindus.
·
Its goal is the “Sarvangeena Unnati” (all-round
development) of India.
·
The coin features Lion Capital of Ashoka, the national emblem on the obverse
(front) and depicts Bharat Mata in Varada Mudra, a gesture of blessing,
seated on a lotus with a lion beside on
the Reverse (Back).
·
Postage Stamp: It features the participation of RSS swayamsevaks in the 1963
Republic Day Parade, symbolizing the historic role of RSS in national service
and patriotism.

UPSC ENTERED
100TH YEAR OF SERVICE
·
The Union Public Service
Commission (UPSC) entered its centenary (100th) year.
·
Dr. Ajay Kumar, Chairman of UPSC has launched the
dedicated anecdote portal ‘My UPSC Interview: From Dream to Reality’; unveiled
new logo and centenary logo.
·
My UPSC
Interview Portal: Through this new portal, UPSC invites civil servants, both serving and retired,
to share their experiences of appearing before the UPSC Interview Board.
·
The new logo of UPSC
features national emblem at its centre,
representing authority and service to the nation.
·
It is surrounded by a wreath of banyan leaves which symbolizes wisdom and
resilience.
·
The logo reinforces the ethos of
accountability and duty, is anchored by a ribbon inscribed with ‘Sangh Lok Seva’ in
‘Hindi’ language.
·
Centenary Logo: The logo features wave motif
which signifies the UPSC’s journey over a century: progressive, enduring, and adaptive, culminating in the final ‘0’ of ‘100’, where the UPSC logo
rests.
