1.       UNION HEALTH MINISTRY & PANCHAYATI RAJ MINISTRY SIGN MOU TO END TB IN INDIA BY 2025

·         The MoU would establish inter-ministerial collaborations and strategic partnerships with the goal of eradicating TB in India by 2025.

·         The main objective of this MoU is to avoid convergence at the policy, programme, and implementation levels across the Ministries, in favour of a multi-sectoral and expedited response to a TB-free India.

·         Both the Ministries will take forward the “TB Harega, DeshJeetega” campaign in rural India.

·         I 2018, Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi launched the TB Free India Campaign at the Delhi End-TB Summit in 2018 in New Delhi, Delhi.

·         It was launched to eliminate TB in India by 2025, five years ahead of the target of 2030 set by the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) and as a commitment to fighting diseases in India, which has the highest burden of TB in the world.

1.       KARNATAKA BECOMES THE FIRST STATE IN INDIA TO HAVE AN R & D POLICY

·         Karnataka is slated to be the first state in India to establish an exclusive Research and Development (R & D) policy.

·         A Task Force has been formed to ensure its effective implementation.

·         To support the implementation of the proposed policy, a state-level R&D council and foundation will be established. The policy would be approved following a discussion in the state cabinet.

·         The policy might aim to dedicate at least 0.1% of the state’s Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP)to R&D and innovation, which would likely benefit the state by bringing more development.

1.       PM NARENDRA MODI’S VISIT TO GERMANY AND UAE-G7 SUMMIT

·         The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi was on a 3-day visit to Germany, and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

·         In the first leg of his visit he visited Alpine castle of Schloss Elmau in southern Germany to attend the 48th G7 Summit in 2022 as Guest.

·         He was invited by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

·         It was hosted by Germany as it is the current chair of G7.

·         The G7 group launched a ‘Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment’ initiative to compete with China.

·         On the suggestion of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, the G7 will establish a Climate Club by the end of 2022. 

·         It will an intergovernmental forum consistent with international rules, and is open to countries committed to the 2015 Paris Agreement goal.

·         Later PM Narendra Modi has a brief stopover in Abu Dhabi, UAE to pay his condolences on the passing away of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the former president of UAE.

1.   HURUN INDIA FUTURE UNICORN INDEX 2022

      According to the Hurun Research Institute’s ‘ASK Private Wealth Hurun India Future Unicorn Index 2022’, India will have 122 new unicorns in the next two to four years.

      Startups like Shiprocket, Zepto, and Turtlemint are at the top of the list of probable unicorns.

      The index provides a glimpse of the Indian start-up ecosystem and ranks Indian start-ups that were established in the 2000s, worth at least USD 200 million (Rs. 1,500 crore), are not yet listed on a public exchange, and are most likely to “go unicorn” within the next 2 -4 years. The deadline was May 31, 2022.

      According to data provided by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry(MoCI), India’s start-up ecosystem is now home to more than 69,000 start-ups and is the 3rd largest in the world in terms of the number of unicorns (as of 2nd May 2022).

      The United States (US) and China have the top 2 largest start-up ecosystems.

      Hurun Research identified 122 Indian future Unicorns from 25 cities.

      According to the index, Bengaluru remains India’s start-up capital, with 46 probable unicorns.

      Unicorns– Startups valued at USD 1 billion that were created after the year 2000.

1.   NITI AAYOG REPORT ON INDIA’S GIG AND PLATFORM ECONOMY

•      NITI (National Institution for Transforming India) Aayog’s report titled ‘India’s Booming Gig and Platform Economy- Perspectives and Recommendations on the Future of Work’ was launched by its Vice Chairman Suman Bery, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Amitabh Kant and Special Secretary Dr. K RajeswaraRao.

•      Gig Economy/Sector is a labour market in which instead of a traditional, in-office, full-time job with a single company, gig workers work as short-term, temporary/freelance, or independent contractors for one or a variety of employers.

•      In 2020–21, 77 lakh (7.7 million) workers were engaged in the gig economy.

1.     TATA POWER SOLAR COMMISSIONS INDIA’S LARGEST FLOATING SOLAR POWER PROJECT

      Tata Power Solar Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Power, has commissioned India’s largest floating solar power project in Kayamkulam, Kerala on a 350-acre water body, backwaters area with an installed capacity of 101.6 Megawatt (MW) Peak.

      This plant boasts a floating inverter platform having a 5 Megawatt (MW) capacity.

1.     CHINA’S NAVY TO BUILD A NAVAL FACILITY IN CAMBODIA

     China is secretly building a naval facility on the northern portion of Cambodia’s Ream Naval Base that would help extend its military’s currently limited reach in foreign waters.

      China commands the world’s largest naval fleet with more than 350 vessels compared to the US Navy has 296 ships and submarines.

      China currently has only one foreign naval base at Djibouti in East Africa.

1.       DELHI AIRPORT BECOMES INDIA’S 1ST TO RUN ENTIRELY ON HYDRO AND SOLAR ENERGY

·         Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport becomes the 1st airport in India that switched to hydro and solar power.

·         This reduces energy emissions by 2 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide per year which would satisfy the airport’s goal to achieve the ‘Net Zero Carbon Emissions Airport’ target by 2030.

·         In June 2022, 62 electric vehicles will be added to its fleet of vehicles, thus phasing out all its diesel and petrol vehicles.

·         In 2015, the Cochin International Airport in Kerala became the 1st airport in the world to run using solar energy.

1.       MSMES WILL GET AN ADDITIONAL 1 PERCENT INCENTIVE IN THE FIRST, SECOND, AND THIRD YEARS.

·         The incentive is part of the PLI scheme has been proposed in the Union Budget 2022-23.

·         The design-led manufacturing scheme requires an investment threshold of Rs 10 crores for MSMEs and Rs 100 crores for non-MSMEs, excluding land and building cost.

·         Applicants can avail incentives for five years commencing from April 1, 2022 up to FY 2025-26.

·         It Removes the condition of 15% cap on investment to be made for research and development.

·         The incentives will be given from the Rs 4,000 crore which is left out from total outlay.

1.       DELHI’S IGI AIRPORT STANDS BEST IN INDIA AND SOUTH ASIA

·         The 2022 Skytrax World Airport Awards named Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport the finest in India and South Asia for the 4th consecutive year at the ceremony conducted at Passenger Terminal EXPO in Paris.

·         The airport rose to 37th position from 45th position in 2021, and it is the only airport from India to be featured in the world’s top 50 airports.

·         Qatar’s Hamad International Airport has been named the World’s Best Airport for the 2nd year followed by Tokyo Haneda International Airport, Japan and Singapore Changi Airport.

1.       TAMIL NADU EMERGE AS THE LARGEST STATE WITH OUTSTANDING MICROFINANCE LOANS PORTFOLIO

·         Microfinance Institutions Network (MFIN), an industry association, has released the 41st issue of its Micrometer Report for Q4 Financial Year 2021-22 (FY22), a quarterly report that gives an overview of the microfinance (micro-credit) industry as of March 31, 2022 (Q4 FY22).

·         Tamil Nadu has overtaken West Bengal as the state with the largest outstanding portfolio of microfinance loans.
·         Tamil Nadu’s gross loan portfolio (GLP) was Rs 36,806 crore as of March 31, 2022. Bihar (Rs. 35,941 crore) and West Bengal (Rs. 34,016 crore) came in second and third, respectively.

·         Dr. AlokMisra is the CEO & Director of MFIN.

1.       NATIONAL AERO SPORTS POLICY 2022

·         The National Air Sports Policy 2022 (NASP 2022) was launched by Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), with the aim of optimizing India’s potential in the field of air sports.

·         By 2030, the NASP 2022 aims to make India one of the top sports nations in the world by providing a safe, affordable, accessible, enjoyable, and sustainable air sports ecosystem.

·         It is drafted with inputs from policymakers, practitioners, and the general public in mind, and it ensures the establishment of high-quality infrastructure, equipment, instructors, and services.

 

2.       INDIAN NAVY CONDUCTS 38TH COORDINATED PATROL WITH INDONESIAN NAVY

·         The  India-Indonesia Coordinated Patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) between the Indian Navy (IN) Units of Andaman & Nicobar Command (ANC) and Indonesian Navy have been started in the Andaman Sea and Straits of Malacca

·         The 38th CORPAT is the first post pandemic Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) between India and Indonesia.

·         The CORPAT have been carried out along their International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) since 2002.

3.       RUSSIA OVERTAKES SAUDI ARABIA TO BECOME INDIA’S 2ND BIGGEST OIL SUPPLIER

·         Russia has overtaken Saudi Arabia to become India’s 2nd-biggest oil supplier next to Iraq

·         Indian refiners have bought Russian crude oil at discount as high as USD 30 per barrel.

·         Iraq was the top supplier to India and Saudi Arabia stands 3rd biggest supplier to India.

·         India is the world’s 3rd biggest oil-importing and consuming nation after the United States (US) and China.

 

4.       WORLD BLOOD DONOR DAY 2022 – JUNE 14 

·         World Blood Donor Day(WBDD) is annually observed across the globe on 14th June to create awareness about the importance of blood donation and to promote voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation.

·         The observance of WBDD is led by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

·         The theme/slogan of WBDD 2022 is “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives”. 

 

5.       INDIAN RAILWAYS LAUNCHES FIRST TRAIN UNDER BHARAT GAURAV SCHEME

·         The first train under the Indian Railways ‘Bharat Gaurav’ scheme was flagged off the maiden service from Coimbatore North railway station, Tamil Nadu  to Sainagar Shirdi, Maharashtra.

·         With this, the Southern Railway became the first zone in Indian Railways to get the first registered service provider under the “Bharat Gaurav” scheme.

·         Bharat Gaurav Scheme -In November 2021 Indian Railways had launched the operation of theme-based Bharat Gaurav train to leverage the core strengths of the professionals of the tourism.

·         Objective of Bharat Gaurav Scheme is to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage and magnificent historical places to the people of India and the world, through Bharat Gaurav Trains.

 

6.       HIMACHAL PRADESH: THE 1ST INDIAN STATE TO APPROVE POLICY FOR DRONES

·         Himachal Pradesh (HP) becomes the first state in India to approve drone policy and public use of drones

·         The policy visions to create drone ecosystem built upon the foundation of Governance and Reforms Using Drones (GARUD).

 

7.       GOVT APPOINTS 4 PART-TIME DIRECTORS FOR 4 YEARS ON RBI CENTRAL BOARD

·         Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has nominated 4 part-time non-official Directors on the central board of RBI for a tenure of 4 years effective from 14th June 2022 or until further orders.

·         they are Anand Gopal Mahindra,Venu Srinivasan,Pankaj Ramanbhai Patel,Dr. Ravindra H. Dholakia

·         RBI Deputy Governors – T. Rabi Sankar, M. Rajeshwar Rao, Dr. M. D. Patra, M. K. Jain

 

8.       NEW DIRECTOR-GENERAL OF THE SASHASTRA SEEMABAL (SSB)

·         Sujoy Lal Thaosen (S L Thaosen), Madhya Pradesh-cadre 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been appointed as the new Director-General (DG) of the Sashastra SeemaBal (SSB).

·         Thaosen has been serving as the Special Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF).

·         The Sashastra Seema Bal force guards the India’s borders with Nepal (1,751 km) and Bhutan (699 km).

·         Also ZulfiquarHasan has been appointed as the new Director-General of the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS)

 

9.       4TH KHELO INDIA YOUTH GAMES 2021

·         The 4th edition of Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2021 was hosted by Haryana at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula, Haryana 

·         Haryana won the KIYG 2021 with 52 gold medals, followed by Maharashtra with 45 and Karnataka with 22.

·         For the 1st time ever, KIYG roped in sponsors.

·         The State Bank of India (SBI) was the title sponsor of KIYG 2021 while Punjab National Bank (PNB) is Associate Sponsor.

·         KIYG, formerly Khelo India School Games (KISG) is the annual national level multidisciplinary grassroot games in India.

·         It is the flagship event of the Indian Government’s Khelo India (Let’s play India) proposed in 2017.

1.       UDAN CELEBRATES 2022 AS ITS 5TH ANNIVERSARY YEAR

·         A Central Government scheme of Ude DeshkaAam Naagrik (UDAN) i.e. let the country’s typical person fly, is celebrating its fifth anniversary this year.

·         This first of its kind scheme, headed by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), stimulates Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) through a market-based mechanism.

·         It ensures common man to commute between smaller cities in a short time, and at an affordable cost.

·         The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is its implementing agency.

 

2.       25TH FOUNDATION DAY OF BIMSTEC CELEBRATED

·         Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) celebrated the Foundation Day of BIMSTEC 2022 or BIMSTEC Day 2022 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

·         6th June 2022 also marks the celebration of the 25th foundation Day of BIMSTEC, Silver Jubilee Anniversary(25th anniversary) of the foundation of BIMSTEC.

·         BIMSTEC was initially formed with 4 member states, Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand, with the acronym of BIST-EC(Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand Economic Cooperation). 

·         On 22nd December 1997, Myanmar was included into the economic bloc and the group was renamed as “BIMSTEC)

·         Following the inclusion of Nepal and Bhutan in February 2004, the group was renamed as “Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation” BIMSTEC. 

·         In 2014, the BIMSTEC Secretariat was established in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

 

3.       OMNICARD BECOMES 1ST RBI LICENSED PPI TO LAUNCH CASH WITHDRAWAL ACROSS ALL ATMS PAN INDIA

·         Payment solution provider OmniCard became the first Reserve Bank of India (RBI) licensed PPI (Prepaid Instrument) to launch a cash withdrawal facility using a RuPay-powered card from any ATM (Automated teller machine) through their e-wallet.

·         This decision came in after RBI permitted the non-bank licensed entities to enable cash withdrawals from the digital wallet.

·         The company worked with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) team to enable the facility.

·         Sanjeev Pandey is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of OmniCard.

 

4.       EVEREST GROUP: TCS RETAINED ITS 10TH POSITION

·         According to the estimates by the Everest Group, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has retained its 10th position among the top 10 Global Business Process Management (BPM) providers in 2021.

·         ADP has topped the list with a revenue of USD 10.5 billion, followed by Teleerformance, Accenture, Concentrix and Sitel Group.

·         The ranking is based on a composite score of revenue and year-on-year growth.

·         According to the Everest report, the top 5 fastest growing companies’ year-on-year were Tech Mahindra, Telus International, Majorel, Teleperformance and Comdata.

 

5.       HARINI LOGAN WON THE 2022 SCRIPPS NATIONAL SPELLING BEE 

·         Harini Logan(13-year-old) an Indian origin person from San Antonio, Texas, United States of America(USA) won the 2022 Scripps National Spelling Bee competition held in Gaylord National Hotel and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, USA.

·         This marks the 94th edition of the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

·         The first edition of the competition was held in 1925.

·         Balu Natarajan was the first person of Indian origin to win the spelling bee competition in 1985.

·         Zaila Avant-Garde (2021 champion) became the 1st Black American and 1st Louisiana speller to win the Bee.    

 

6.       FORMULA ONE: MAX VERSTAPPEN WINS AZERBAIJAN GP

·         Red Bull’s Max Verstappen (Belgium) won the Azerbaijan Formula One Grand Prix 2022 held at Baku, Azerbaijan to extend his Formula One championship lead over Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (Monaco).

·         Formula One championships are held by Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA)

·         The 24-year-old Verstappen became the most successful driver in the Red Bull of all time and at present, he has 66 podiums for Red Bull and is tied 9th for the most race wins alongside Jim Clark and Niki Lauda.

7.       WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR 2022 – JUNE 12 

·         The United Nations(UN)’s World Day Against Child Labour is annually observed across the globe on 12th June to create awareness about the harmful effects of child labour on individuals.

·         The theme of World Day Against Child Labour 2022 is “Universal Social Protection to End Child Labour”.
